How do we operate?
- We are active in educating, researching, publishing and developing policy to guide local and state initiatives to expose slavery in the general economy and to suppress it. Our major publications are ‘The business of slavery’ and ‘Australians and modern slavery’.
- We believe that local police and local inspectors are well placed to identify slavery. You can download our research reports on forced labour and on precarious work, in a pdf copy for free.
- Slavery Links engages with the community through public speaking; the development of seminars, workshops and education materials; and evidence-giving to Parliament. You can download each of our Submissions to Parliament, in a pdf copy for free.
- We have also provided three public exhibitions, in 2009, 2013 and 2015.
Membership & donations

We have been funded by members. We are independent of Government. We encourage donations (which are tax deductible). In 2015-16, we acknowledged a grant from the Vera Moore Trust, for work relating to Victoria.
Governance
The people who became Slavery Links started work in 2005. We took leadership before the problem of slavery was well known in Australia. In 2009 Slavery Links Australia Inc. was incorporated as a community association. In 2011 Slavery Links was registered as a charity. In 2016-2017 the association was registered as a Public Benevolent Institution, with Deductible Gift Recipient status.
Under our Rules, the Committee of Management is a Board of Directors.
